Commitment to the wider community
Barclay Academy sits at the heart of a vibrant, thriving community. At the heart of ethos sits the ideal of respect, and we have a commitment to the wider community around us, both on the school and local levels as well as on a global level. We encourage our students to actively respect and contribute to the world around them, be it through charitable work or by educating them on wider world issues.
Throughout their time at the Academy, students have the opportunity to volunteer both at school and in the local community. Volunteering projects include:
- The chance for pupils to become student ambassadors at local primary schools.
- The opportunity to read with residents of local care homes.
- The chance for Sixth Form students to coach younger students and run clubs.
We frequently offer charity fundraising opportunities and events within the school, through the Form, Year Group, and House systems.
We also have a unique uniform donation project, which links us with Stockwell School in South Africa. For more information on this scheme, click here.
In addition to our charitable work and volunteering opportunities, we are committed to building partnerships between our students and the local community. We actively foster links with local businesses, and students have the opportunity to meet local employers through a variety of careers-related events to meet local employers. These events include an annual Careers Fair, Work Shadowing and visits to local companies such as Roche, MBDA and Airbus.
